Take a look back at the events that shaped another amazing year for Heritage Resorts
The hospitality industry is known as the industry that never sleeps. Day in, day out, the personnel, made of hundreds of people, work tirelessly to create an experience. Heritage Resorts, a beachside oasis, is no exception. As we start the New Year, it now seems like the right time to reflect back on 2017, a particularly eventful year for our two sister hotels, Heritage Le Telfair and Heritage Awali.
March – Wellness Break with the HART collective
Our Wellness Breaks offer guests a chance to unwind during their trip. We collaborated with the HART collective (Healing Arts Rejuvenating Therapies) to curate a weekend of meditative, full-body-and-mind classes like Yoga, Qigong, and Meditation. The workshops, led by industry specialists, provide participants with the tools to go deeper into their own practice. Yes, you can have your namaste and cocktails too.
July – Beach Restoration
The Bel Ombre lagoon, a sanctuary for innumerable species of fish and corals, is one of the few protected lagoons. Professor Kerry Black, a renowned Australian coastal and hydrodynamic specialist, and Iain Watt, a Scottish marine biologist, conducted rehabilitation work on the beaches in front of both of our hotels to prevent erosion, during which the Heritage Awali was closed from July 1st to August 20th.
July – Heritage Southern Peaks Trail
What is the only race of its kind in the southwest region gathered 350 local runners the first time around. Runners, athletes, and families were able to run (or jog or walk) in one of four categories: 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km. The race was a chance to set new goals, challenge oneself, but also discover the untouched nature of the wild south and the Domaine de Bel Ombre. The finishing line was on the beach at the swanky C Beach Club.
September – Reopening of Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort
After a 3-month renovation, the newly-revamped Le Telfair reopened, welcoming guests inside its colonial-style abode, at the heart of a former sugar plantation on the wild, southwest coast. The personnel underwent additional training, while the rooms, suites and communal spaces were freshened up a little (rest assured, they still retain their charm.)
September – Wellness Break with Leading Industry Specialist Susan Gwaltney
Our Wellness Breaks series continues. This time, the wellness week was headed by Susan Gwaltney, a key actor in the wellness industry. Guests had a chance to practice healing namely through sound therapy.
September – 2nd edition of the TAG Heuer Kitesurf League
For the second year in a row TAG Heuer was the official sponsor of the Kitesurf league, started by Kite Globing, the kitesurf school based at the C Beach Club, one of the island’s best kite spots. The competition gathers native kitesurfers, pros, and amateurs of the adrenaline-inducing sport.
October – Launch Party of the Heritage mother brand & reopening of Heritage Le Telfair
Five hundred guests – partners, friends, tour operators and key actors of the hospitality industry -, cocktail in hand, gathered to celebrate the reopening of the Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort and the Heritage Le Château and its beautifully-landscaped gardens.
Also celebrated was the launch of the ‘Heritage’ mother brand that encompasses the leisure and hospitality activities of the group in Bel Ombre: Heritage The Villas, Heritage Golf Club, Heritage Le Château, Heritage Nature Reserve, Heritage C Beach Club and the two exquisite five-stars, Heritage Le Telfair and Heritage Awali. The idea of a new brand identity is to expose the synergy between the various leisure and hospitality components, which guests have full access to.
October – Wellness Week with Idi Paksi x Lolë
Guests were invited to unleash their inner zen at the Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort with Lolë, the Canada-based athleisure brand for women. The 7-day retreat was a chance to connect with like-minded people and bond over all things wellness. The dream getaway acts as a cure and involves Pilates classes, massages, healthy meals, stand-up paddleboarding and dips in the warm sea. Heritage Resorts, set near Heritage Nature Reserve and the beach are a dream-come-true for those in pursuit of the ultimate self-care formula.
November – The Heritage Southern Tropical Challenge
The thrilling race (a fantasy-turned-real life of a few local mountain bikers) involves picturesque landscapes, twists, slopes, the wild nature of the south, rocky mountains and even the beach (with a cooling beer). The challenge has two main events: Sky to C is a two-rider affair where pros compete with other adept riders while Sea to C is open to riders of all levels.
December – Starred dinner with Chef David Toutain
There is no shortage of tables, restaurants or bars across the Domaine; yet, none of them embarks foodies on a culinary and gastronomic journey quite like the summer menu curated by David Toutain for Château de Bel Ombre. The acclaimed chef who took Paris by storm, concocted a wine pairing dinner at the chateau, in an exquisite display of his poetic cuisine.
December – AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open
This year’s tournament was dubbed “the most beautiful week in golf” and rightfully so: Top 50 players got to soak up the sun while playing on Heritage Golf Club’s stunning greens (which, for the fourth consecutive year, was awarded the title of “Best Indian Ocean Golf Course” by the World Golf Awards.) ABMO, the first tri-sanctioned tournament in the world is the biggest sports event in the Indian Ocean. Get the details here!
