Our commitment
Heritage Resorts is steeped in crafting a future where its guests can explore the island of Mauritius and the Bel Ombre territory and experience its intensity while protecting its integrity. We are committed to sound principles that help reduce our activities' environmental impacts. As part of the community of actively sustainable luxury hotels going the extra eco mile, we strive to prove that luxury is compatible with longevity.
Sincere and conscious
As small steps lead to giant leaps, the collective and measured approach is the only way to significant change. 'Now for Tomorrow' program commits to strengthening resilient development, promoting sustainable consumption, protecting Mauritius' biodiversity through sustainable development, enhancing cultural and historical heritage and maintaining vibrant communities.
As a contribution to our communities, we have created the Heritage Training Academy program to form and recruit members of our community. We work with our local community on environmental initiatives, such as clean-up campaigns. In addition, we work in collaboration with an NGO called Foodwise to distribute our hotels' surplus food to people in need.
Responsible hospitality
Fuelled by a determination to make a difference and seeing challenges as opportunities, Heritage Le Telfair offers all guests carbon-neutral stays. Energy transition is one of our sustainability pillars, with carbon captured through local reforestation programs or offsetting initiatives.
Our hotels offer eco-labelled products such as soap, shampoo and body lotion, and use flow regulators in faucets and showers. We encourage our guests not to change sheets and towels during their stay, offer them environmentally friendly modes of transport, and keep them informed and involved in our environmental initiatives.
Planet earth first
Because we care about our planet, our paper, glass and plastic packaging is recycled, as is our cooking oil. We select native plants adapted to our climate for our garden, and chemicals are replaced with organic products or natural fertilizers. We use the green waste from our gardens as compost to use as a natural fertilizer.
We are in constant communication with our suppliers to eliminate single-use plastic packaging. To eliminate plastic bottles, the water served in our Resorts is from our in-house bottling. We treat our wastewater on-site and use recycled water for irrigation. Additionally, rainwater is collected and reused.
Grown with love and attention.
Honest, healthy and environmentally friendly is the ethos that nurtures every aspect of our guest experience. Our farm-to-fork strategy of growing our own fruits and vegetables in the fields of Bel Ombre supports our purpose of reducing a carbon footprint whilst guaranteeing product quality.
Artisanal, local, tasty!
Ice-creams and sorbets are made with local and seasonal fruits and ingredients. Sweet Pineapple, mild chilli, tangy tamarind, here is a sample selection to address savvy foodies. Our way to showcase the savoir-faire of our local or regional producers and farmers.
Regional and organic products produced in Bel Ombre and surrounding villages are favoured by our restaurants. Our suppliers are carefully chosen, we select those who have an ecological approach and choose products bearing the ecological label to offer our customers seasonal and local fruits and vegetables.
A refuge for unique species in the world
The heart of the Black River Gorges National Park – an area managed by the National Parks and Conservation Services in Mauritius (NPCS) – is one of Bel Ombre's not-to-be-missed experiences! Take a walk with Jean-Claude Sevathian, botanist and wildlife guide... his passion : take you on an adventure into the wild, to explore the unique fauna and flora of Mauritius.
Bel Ombre is a model of marine conservation for Mauritius, our commitment could only be as bold! We choose to restore and conserve the most vulnerable and invaluable natural legacy, and team up with local NGOs such as Reef Conservation to closely monitor our unique marine and coastal ecosystems, here in the wild south of Mauritius. To involve the communities, we organize awareness campaigns about the protection of our coastal ecosystem.
So many stories are yet to be told, of nature and men.
We are all in this together aren't we ?
